There isn't a driving test centre in Ebbw Vale itself, but there are a couple around 20 minutes drive away. Merthyr Tydfil and Abergavenny test centres are the closest to you. Brecon, north of Ebbw Vale, is about 35 minutes away by car, and there is also Newport test centre about 45 minutes away to the south.

Your first driving lesson in Ebbw Vale will take place in a quiet residential area, somewhere like Llys Onnen, where you can practise away from other traffic. Once you have mastered the basics, such as the controls, moving off and stopping, then your driving instructor will take you to busier roads, such as Letchworth Road, to practise turning from major to minor roads, emerging from T-Junctions and roundabouts.

Being in hilly Ebbw Vale, hill starts will also be an essential skill to practise and you will have many roads to choose from to do this, including Bridge Street. Please know though that you won't be confined to Ebbw Vale. As soon as you are ready, your driving instructor will be training you on dual carriageways; then you can use the A465 to head towards the Merthyr Tydfil driving test centre and see some of the tricky areas you may encounter on your driving test there.
